(M1) Justify Content, Distribution and Marketing Methods Identified for the Planned Production to meet a Client Brief

Content -

In my magazine, I am going to include certain types of content to branch out to my selected and preferred target audience. This means that I can get a more positive response from a target audience. The content and assets that I use will directly link to my target audience's needs and preferences.

For example, I will use images to keep and audience captivated in the magazine, whilst also creating something for the text beside the image to link to.

Reviews -

In my magazine, I am going to include reviews as a form of content. This will be reviews of interesting cars from current day to around the 1960's. This will be interesting to my target audience as they will be interested in the specifications of the car, and the opinions I have on it.

This will also cover the new release models of cars, and the reviews will be based on looks, and facts that I can find about the vehicle. I can also take information from people who have driven them. I will do this through primary research.

Interviews -

In my magazine, I will also have interviews from people. This can be from drivers of cars, or fictional interviews that I will create with popular celebrities among the car community. This can be people such as Jeremy Clarkson, all the way to Lewis Hamilton.

This will attract viewers as they see familiar faces being quoted in the interview section of my magazine.

Fact Files -

I will also include fact file sections in my double page spread. This will be short bursts of information about a car brand or a specific car. This will be a quick snap of attention and will interest the reader as they learn about interesting facts.

Distribution -

My magazine will be distributed in very similar ways to similar magazines in the competing sector. For example, I would place my magazine mostly in supermarkets, as this is where the most people will be, and they will be most likely to make the impulse purchase. However, to gain a more selected audience which would be more appropriate for my target audience, I will include the magazine in stores such as Halfords, which is a car maintenance and motoring store. This means that magazine gets to a more niche audience, who are more likely to buy the content that I produce.

If I wanted to get even closer to my ideal target audience, I could include my magazine in specific motorsport driven areas. This would be places such as race tracks, cars and coffee shops and car meets and events. places I could distribute these magazines include racetracks such as Silverstone and Santa Pod, as well as car meet locations such as Caffeine and Machine, and The Motorist. These will have a very specific audience who are both interested in cars in general as well as popular motorsports.

My magazine could be distributed globally, as the interest in motorsports is very much global, and much more popular and anticipated in places such as Italy and the USA. However, to avoid being too overwhelming, and not strategically possible for a new magazine, I am going to keep my magazine national for now, and if this was a real brief I would branch out internationally further down the course of the magazine. Using national distribution does benefit me though, as it means I can tailor my content to a nationality that I am completely familiar with, in turn making it more relatable.

I will also distribute my magazine around supermarkets all across the UK, as there is no specific part of the UK which is interested in my subject more than any other part. However, if I was to make a different subject in my magazine, for example off-road vehicles, I would distribute my magazine to more rural areas that have less roads.

My magazine will be produced for and sold in shops such as supermarkets and petrol stations. They would be distributed in these areas as people are more likely to impulse purchase something from a smaller store, for example when they are paying for fuel. For example, 64% of supermarket purchases and revenue is impulse purchases (Science Direct). This means that putting these magazines in supermarkets people are more likely to see the magazine, and if they take interest in it they would purchase it from an impulse decision.

Synergy -

If I was to produce my magazine as a joint venture, I would produce it with the new version of Top Gear on Amazon Prime, The Grand Tour. This means that the magazine would approach the perfect audience, as The Grand Tour has an audience of people who both love cars, and enjoy comedy driven media. This means that I would be more likely to gain sales from the representation of the Grand Tour image alone, but I would also have a huge advantage with the theme and subject of the magazine.

Marketing -

To market my magazine, I will use social media specifically. I have chosen this type of media as the target audience can be adjusted, meaning I can send my advertisement to the people most applicable as a target audience member for my magazine. I can also make these advertisements fully interactive, meaning that people can learn more about the magazine online, and then either order it straight from the website, or find a store near them that sells it and buy it for a slightly cheaper price.

I will create a Monthly membership to my magazine as another form of marketing. This will cost a little more expensive than a magazine per month, and it will mean that the reader is sent two copies of the magazine to their address per month. One of these will be the standard production of magazine, and the other will be a smaller 'extra' magazine which includes more fun and precise information. These magazines would be considered exclusive and collectible therefore making them more attractive to buy.

Digital Distribution -

I will be distributing my magazine digitally among different media platforms. For example, I am going to incorporate my magazine both on social media and on a website. This means that people would be able to access free compilations of my magazine from wherever they are, as long as they have internet access.

This is good as it means that the content can reach a much larger amount of people, as online readership has much higher numbers than physical readership in 2023. This is because it is much easier to access information online. I will once again include a paid contract in order to be able to access full versions of my magazine online. This will be the same price of one magazine per month, and a small upgrade would mean you qualify for the premium membership, which is explained above.

The digital marketing is also explained above, as I linked the marketing to other physical forms of marketing that I am going to use.
