(D1) Analyse how post-production techniques and processes create meaning in the media product to meet the client brief

The purpose of my magazine is to provide entertainment and information to my target audience. This is achieved through images and text, as well as some colloquialisms for a British magazine and the type of person that would read the magazine.

My magazine is also intended to create a modern style in a vehicle magazine, as well as maintaining the standards and conventions of the theme. To do this, I am using modern colours such as whites and greys, as well as some vibrant pops of red and yellow. I also used PNG photos in my magazine, as this is a very modern technique to make images stand out within a magazine page.

Graphics -

The graphics I have used in my magazine include text, my logo, slogans and PNG images that I have used purposefully in the double page spread.

This is my Masthead/Title, I created this graphic in adobe illustrator using the sherman font from dafont.com.
I created the design of the speedometer by using a circle with an outline, and using the scissors tool to remove a quarter of the circle so it could fit around the text.
I then added the numbers on the speedometer by typing them individually into their places. I made sure in doing this that they were places the same amount of distance apart. This makes it obvious to the person reading that the graphic is a speedometer.
After this, used the 'type on a path' tool on the circle to add the tag line around the circle on the top of the graphic. This made sure that the slogan looked professional, and is also a industry standard technique for graphic design.
I then copied the needle that I had used and pasted it at the same distance apart, with decreasing opacity to make the motion effect. I then used the same technique to add the motion graphic at the bottom of the speedometer.
This is very fitting with other motoring magazines, and I think that this masthead perfectly replicates the theme that I was trying to achieve with the magazine. The addition of the graphic at the end of the text makes the logo a distinct motor magazine logo, and I think that this works very well.
This shows that my magazine has reflected the chosen style for vehicle magazines.

PNGs -
This is another one of my graphics. In order to create this, I took a JPEG image that I had taken prior and used the magic eraser tool to remove the background of the photo. This is one of the graphics I used in the final version of my double page spread.

This is one of the other photos that I decided to turn into a PNG. I like how this one turned out however, if I was to change anything I would make sure that there was no grass in shot. This PNG was the smoothest out of all 3 that I created. I also think that I embodied the car magazine style, as PNGs are used extremely prominently in these styles of magazines.

This is the final PNG that I created for my double page spread. I used the same techniques for this photos that I used for the others. I did not manage to capture the bottom of the wheels in the photo, so if I did this again I would make sure that I did.

Positioning -

The positioning of assets in a magazine is an extremely important process. Throughout the creation of my magazine, I made sure that I placed my assets in the places I thought would work best, and would reflect my chosen theme and style in my magazine.

This is my front page of my magazine. First of all, I have chosen a central positioning for the car on the cover. I have made sure that the car is centre page as it is the focus of the cover, and following the rule of thirds, the focus should be in the centre of the photo.
I included the masthead at the top of the magazine, this is so that when the magazine is in the display section in a shop the masthead will always be visible. This makes sure the name of the magazine is in people's minds when they see it.
I added the text above the car at different heights in the page as I wanted to avoid cluttering the front page. This gave them some space apart from each other.
The rest of the information on the magazine I kept central, so that it looked neat and clean on the front design.
I added the barcode in the bottom left as that is a standard place to place the barcode on the cover.

The asset positioning on my double page spread is the most crucial out of all of my pages. I centered everything around the main photo on the double page spread.
I also made sure that all of the images in the double page spread are placed in locations where the text can either wrap around them, or would not interfere with them.
I made sure that the titles are all at the top of the page, so that they stand out compared to all the other text, and make the reading experience much easier.
I made sure that I also filled in all negative space in both pages to keep the design interesting

Positioning on my contents page was much simpler, as I took a very simplistic approach to the layout of my contents page. I needed to ensure that everything was central on the page, which was easy to do using the centralise tool on Adobe Indesign.
